Planet-friendly kitchen-related Christmas gifts
If you’ve been around here a while, you will have noticed we’re pretty environmentally conscious. We take time to ensure that the actions we take and the materials we use don’t negatively impact on our planet. And we place sustainability at the core of what we do.
So when we decided to do a Christmas gift roundup, it was important to us that we seek out only the most eco-friendly products from independent UK suppliers who share out planet-friendly ethos.
Coconut bowls
Handcrafted from sustainably-sourced organic coconuts, these tactile bowls are 100% natural and the perfect replacement for hard-to-recycle melamine.
We love the idea of loading them up with fruit from the breakfast table or taking them along on a camping trip to be filled with a hearty stew.
Designed to be used time and time again, and perfect for both hot or cold foods, these are sturdy enough to use at home and lightweight enough to become a handy travel companion.
We found these in ethical gift shop Wearth London, and for an extra special touch you can even personalise them with up to 15 characters.
Recycled glassware
Glass is the ultimate environmentally friendly material. It can be recycled time and again with no degradation of quality. And better than that it actually takes less energy to create products from recycled glass than it does from the original raw materials.
So if you’re considering treating a loved one to some beautiful Christmas glassware, consider buying recycled. These colourful tumblers from The Recycled Glassware Company could be the perfect way to add a little bit of eco-friendly colour to your open kitchen shelving.
Bees wax wraps
Wax wraps are not a new thing when it comes to the world of food covering. But they are definitely something that has become more mainstream over the past few years.
Now available in a range of beautiful designs and colourful prints, these are a great replacement for clingfilm in the modern kitchen. Perfect for school packed lunches, picnics, or simply covering leftovers in the fridge.
This colourful design from Warwick-based eco-friendly retailer Protect the Planet is even vegan friendly too. A beautiful and functional stocking filler they’ll use every day.
Colourful stainless steel straws
We’ve all heard of the dangers of plastic straws to our oceans, but perhaps we don’t realise the true extent of the problem. From production to disposal, the chemical processing involved, the single-use nature and their inability to biodegrade, mean straws have a devastating impact on our marine life.
And to compound the problem, just three years ago it was estimated that in Europe we use 23.3 billion straws per day!
So what better gift this Christmas than one that not only looks great, but raises awareness of this important topic. Plus who wouldn’t love to sup their Christmas cocktail in style.
We’ve found these, produced by Hull-based Turtle Savers, who are devoted to developing sustainable products that help reduce the plastic waste in our environment.
Floral kitchen linen
Biophilic design (bringing nature into the home) has been a big thing for a while now. And we agree adding plants and flowers to your interiors is a great way to boost mood and wellbeing. And who doesn’t need a bit of that at the moment?
We’d love to find these bright, cheerful oven gloves and tea towels in our stocking come Christmas morning.
Chalk and Moss, a sustainable homewares store based in Brighton on the south coast, have a range of fab and funky flower-based designs that will brighten up any drab and dreary kitchen.
If you’re giving gifts a miss this year in favour of saving for a new kitchen in 2021, why not give us a call to find out more about our planet-friendly, sustainable kitchen designs.
